Final Fantasy Resonance Best Builds and Party Setups
Final Fantasy Resonance has no class-and-gear build in the usual sense. Your party is shaped by which Vision each character carries. This page explains what is known and gives three role-balanced setups to try.

Short answer
- Give every battle a stagger source, a damage dealer, a protector and a healer unless you have a reason not to.
- Treat the Vision as the main build choice: it sets the role and brings its own skills.
- Chase Cloud and Terra first if you want Visions early: both have a sourced Chapter 1 route.
- Everything below is a judgment from official skill descriptions and public reports. We have not played the full game.
How party building works
-
Four characters take part in a battle. Reported
-
Each character equips one Vision at a time, and the Vision's role comes with it. Reported
The official Equipment and Abilities screenshot shows a single Vision entry on the character.
-
As a Vision levels up, some of its skills can be equipped on the character directly. Some are passives, for example restoring MP on stagger. Reported
The official Equipment and Abilities screenshot lists equippable abilities grouped under several Visions, each with a number beside it.
-
Equippable abilities carry a numeric cost and the character screen shows an AP stat, so loadouts look limited by an AP budget. Reported
Inferred by us from the official screenshot plus a pre-launch guide; the exact rule is not confirmed.
-
Square Enix lists a Mastery Ring that increases MRP gained in battle, and the character screen shows MR and MRP. A pre-launch guide says Mastery Rank is tracked per character and Vision pairing. Reported
MRP is official wording from the Deluxe Pack description; the per-pair detail is from the guide only.
The six roles
| Role | What it does | Visions reported in this role |
|---|---|---|
| Breaker | Specializes in staggering enemies. | Aileen, Bartz, Clive, Cloud, Firion, Lightning, Tronn, Vaan |
| Commando | Focuses on dealing damage. | Camille, Noctis, Onion Knight, Terra, Shantotto, Sephiroth |
| Sentinel | Shields and protects allies. | Cecil, Charlotte, Wilhelm |
| Medic | Keeps the party healthy. | Leah, Ayaka |
| Saboteur | Hinders enemies to shift the momentum of a battle. | Amelia |
| Synergist | Strengthens allies to give the party an edge. | None named by our source |
Role names and counts differ between sources; see the conflicts on the Visions page. Role lists come from one community database and are marked Reported.
Three setups to try
Balanced four
Breaker + Commando + Sentinel + Medic
One of each of the four core roles covers stagger, damage, protection and healing. It is the safest default while the battle rules are still being verified.
Example Visions by reported role: Cloud, Firion, Terra, Wilhelm, Leah.
Editorial, untested
Stagger rush
Breaker + Breaker + Commando + Medic
Square Enix describes weakness hits and stagger as the way to win extra turns, and a Sweeping Stagger needs every enemy staggered at once. Two stagger sources may make that easier in fights with several enemies. This is our reasoning, not a tested result.
Example Visions by reported role: Cloud, Lightning, Vaan, Terra, Leah.

Chapter 1 and demo
Breaker + Commando
Cloud and Terra are the two Visions we have a sourced Chapter 1 route for. Fill the other two slots with whatever the story gives you, and check the route on the How to get Visions page.
Example Visions by reported role: Cloud, Terra.

Not confirmed yet
- Skill lists for individual Visions, so we cannot say which Vision's skills are worth carrying on others.
- How the AP budget works and what its limit is.
- Whether a Vision's role gives a bonus when it matches the character.
- The real role count and the real Vision total (sources disagree).
How we made this page
We read Square Enix's Steam page and screenshots, then press previews and community databases, and wrote the setups from the role descriptions and the stagger rules. No setup here has been tested in the full game. When we play and verify, we will change the labels and the date at the top.
Entries marked Reported come from press coverage or community databases, not from Square Enix. Where sources disagree we show both. See About for our sourcing rules.
FAQ
Can a character use more than one Vision?
Reports say each character equips one Vision at a time and the role comes with it. Skills from other Visions can be equipped once learned, within a limit shown as numbers on the ability list. We have not confirmed the exact limit.
How many characters are in a battle?
Four, according to a hands-on preview. Official screenshots show at least six named characters in the party menu, so some are not in the active four.
Is there one best party?
Not that we can show yet. We have not play-tested the game, so we give role-balanced setups and the reasoning behind them instead of a single ranked answer.
